Using Microsoft Word 2000 to create a web page.

The simplest way to create a web page in Word is to

Create a new Word document

  • Make the document look any way you want by changing fonts and colors, and adding graphics and tables.
  • Save the new document as an HTM or HTML document.

You can change any word document into a web page by saving it as an htm document.
To create a more sophisticated page with links, follow the procedure below.

 

Start a new Word document and save as an htm document.
  • Start Microsoft Word
  • Start a new blank document by
    Clicking the Blank Page Icon on the Tool Bar or
    Clicking New in the File Menu

  • Open the File menu and click Save As
  • Create a folder to save your page in
  • Select htm as the File Type
  • Give your page a name
  • Click Save

Entering a title on your page
  • Click the Show/Hide icon so you can see where paragraphs end
  • Center the cursor
  • Press Return several times to open blank lines
  • Place the cursor at to top of the page
  • Type a title for your page
  • Highlight (select) the title you just typed
  • Increase the size of the font by choosing the size or Increase Icon
  • Type By Your name
  • Format the Color and Size of font to your liking

Creating a table and inserting a picture
  • Place the cursor two lines below the title
  • Click the Table Icon and select 2 columns and 1 row
  • Place the cursor in the left column of the table
  • Open the Insert Menu and select Picture
  • Select Clip Art or a picture From File
  • After you find a picture, click OK

  • Place the cursor in the right column
  • Enter some text to describe your picture

Entering a URL or link to another web page
  • Place the cursor below the table you just created.
  • Type a description of the web page
  • Highlight (select) the text you just typed to describe your page
  • Click the Link Button
  • Type in the URL (address) of the page in the box that appears
  • Click OK
  • Your selected text should turn blue and be underlined
  • Save your work

Entering an EMail link
  • Place the cursor below the URL link you just created
  • Type in some text that asks people to send you EMail
  • Highlight (select) the text
  • Again, click the Link Button
  • This time, type
    mailto:me@address.com
    mailto colon your email address
  • Save your work

Creating Bookmark Link

There are times when you might want to create a link to go to a certain place on your web page. These links are called, Bookmark Links.
In this exercise we will create a link to your name

  • Highlight (select) your name at the top of the page
  • Open the Insert Menu and click Bookmark
  • Type myname as the name of your bookmark
  • Click Add to add myname to the bookmark list
  • Place your cursor near the bottom of the page
  • Type some text for the link such as, Click to go to my name.
  • Highlight (select) the text you just typed
  • Click the link button from the toolbar

  • Click Browse from the dialogue box
  • Click on the bookmark you just created
  • Click OK
