 This course is an introduction to the concepts of information processing and systems design and development. Emphasis will be on the impact of the computer on the organizational and managerial decision-making process. Hands-on labs will include an introduction to the operating system, word processing, database management, spreadsheet software, presentation graphics, Visual Basic, and access to the Internet.

: Upon completion of course the student will be able to perform the following objectives:
• Demonstrate an understanding of vocabulary relating to the computer industry
• Identify major hardware devices contained in a PC computer and their purpose
• Demonstrate file management techniques
• Possess a working knowledge of how to effectively use word-processor, spreadsheet, database and presentation graphic applications
• Possess a working knowledge of how to effectively use a browser and Internet applications
• Understand the history of the computer industry, the central processing unit, input and output devices, storage devices, file processing, data communications, operating systems, systems analysis and design, business applications, and computer programming languages.
• Design and code business programs using Visual Basic.NET

Cheating is NOT allowed and a failing grade of "F" will be assigned to any student guilty of cheating, copying, or allowing others to copy your work. This behavior is unethical and will not be tolerated. For more details, refer to the SWC Catalog

Any student with excessive absences, late arrivals and/or early departures will be eligible to be dropped. Excessive tardiness or leaving early is defined as arriving late or leaving prior to the completion of class more than three times. Tardiness/leaving early beyond the third incident usually results in the student being dropped. If any student is in excess of 15 minutes late or leaves more than 15 minutes prior to the end of class, said student will be considered absent for the entire class period. If you are more than 15 minutes late for a test, you will not be eligible to take the test. Unavoidable absences must be cleared with the instructor via e-mail before the absence occurs

As soon as the lab techs finalize the open lab schedule, it will be posted. Rooms are also available in the Learning Resource Center, contact the LRC for times and availability
